What is CBD?

CBD stands for Cannabidiol. “C”, for “Canna” (as in relating to cannabis), “B” for “bi” (meaning two), and “D” for “diol” (which is the scientific term for a chemical compound that contains hydrogen and oxygen). CBD is a cannabis compound made popular by its properties to help receive and manage various medical conditions and symptoms. Many of its widely renounced purposes include pain management and inflammation. For the majority of people, CBD is non-psychoactive and does not result in the “stoned” state commonly seen.

Where does CBD come from?

CBD is often produced from hemp plants (also known as industrial hemp). However, did you know that hemp is in the same family as cannabis, also known as marijuana? Hemp is classified as a variety of Cannabis Sativa. Although hemp is the same species as Cannabis Sativas, it is a different plant strain and does not contain much if any THC, which is the chemical component that causes psychoactive effects. Depending on what the manufacturing process is, the extracted and purified CBD can be in a solid form (like CBD Isolate) or in a liquid form (CBD oil).

What is CBD Isolate?

CBD isolate is CBD in its purest, most wholesome crystalline form. It is most often found ground up into a fine white powder for ease of use. Many people like to smoke, vape, or dab CBD isolate since CBD is able to enter the bloodstream easily via the user’s lungs. This is an effective method of delivering CBD into a user’s system as it bypasses the digestive system and liver, which tends to breakdown and reduce the effectiveness.

What is CBD Oil?

CBD oil is usually CBD isolate suspended in an edible oil such as olive oil or coconut oil. It can be taken orally (by mouth so that it goes through the digestive system), sublingually (placed under the tongue so that the oil can diffuse into the bloodstream through the blood vessels found there), or topically (placed directly on the skin). It is very versatile and can be used for a multitude of purposes depending on what it is used for.

CBD Tincture

Tinctures can be alcohol or oil based. CBD tinctures are frequently found as oil-based tinctures as the fatty acids in oil makes the CBD more accessible for the body to use. This increases of accessibility is called bioavailability.
